Tips for when you are involved in a car accident:
Stay Calm
Always remember to stay calm if you have been involved in a car accident. If you need to call a relative or a friend who can come and offer support and assistance.
Moving the car
If it is a minor car accident and you can move the car without damaging it, then move your car out of the road or out of the immediate flow of traffic. If it is a serious accident DO NOT attempt to move the car.
Never unnecessarily move injured people
Never unnecessarily move injured people as this can cause even further injury if the proper procedures aren't followed. Rather wait for emergency personnel to arrive on the scene so that they can follow the proper procedures. Obtain necessary info
Make sure you obtain all personal and insurance details for all the parties involved in the accident. Details that you will need is their ID number, drivers license number, name, surname, contact details, make, model of car and number plate number. Damaged Car
DO NOT drive a damaged car if you are not absolutely sure that you will not be causing further damage. You can seriously damage the car further if you try to drive a car that has been damaged!
Towing you Car
If the car needs to be towed, make sure the towing company is approved by your car insurance. If you don't make sure of this you might need to pay for the towing if they aren't approved by your car insurance company.
Remove all valuables
Remove all valuables from the vehicle and make sure the towing company notes all vehicle accessories on the towing sheet. (wheel spanner, spare wheel, radio etc) Never admit liability
Never admit liability before discussing this with your insurance company. As this could cause you legal complications at a later stage.
